Prisms in eye glasses?

Question:
I have a prism in one lense in my glasses. The optician said this would pull my eye out the correct way as it looks in ever so slightly. I didn't think to ask at the time, but does anyone know how this works? As far as I can work out, the prism would just affect what I am already seeing but the optician said there would actually be a pulling sensation (which there is) and the muscles would strengthen. If anyone is a qualified optician or just knows how these things work I am very curious to know! Thanks.

Answers:
The prism works by changing the position the light enters the lens. Your eye will be drawn to the spot the light most directly enters the lens. Using a prism to move this spot to a location other than the center will "pull" you eye that way.
