Trapped finger, finger swollen?

Question:
My 5 year old son trapped his finger in the door on friday. His nail turned black pretty quickly, but today the area behind his cuticle is really swollen (the nail is black then up to the first of the 2 knuckles on the finger is swollen) and the nail is leaking blood.
Is there anything I can do? It isn't hot feeling (like infection) it isnt painful for him unless its proded.
My husband suggested making a hole in the nail to let the blood out, but the swelling is more in the finger.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Answers:
He needs to see a doctor, he may have fractured his finger. Don't make a hole in the nail yourself, the doctor can do this more safely if necessary. If you do you may introduce infection.
the same thing happened to me a while ago i went to the doctor he gave me medicine and the option to cut a hole in my nail i said no to the nail cutting thing but i should have took it the blood builds up and pushes the nail it is very painful.
