Ice or heat for a pulled hamstring?

Question:

Answers:
Depends on how old or new the injury is. If it is recent, use ice for 10 minutes every hour. Use RICE as mentioned earlier.

Once the initial pain has subsided (after 3-7 days), start to use heat for about 15-20 minutes. If the heat makes the pain worse again, go straight back to using ice. Heat can make things worse by increasing circulation to an area and then increasing the swelling. If in doubt, use ice.

Once the pain eases and you use heat, start to gently stretch the hamstring, holding for 20-30 seconds, increasing the stretch after about 15 seconds. Try to stretch regularly throughout the day. If it gets sore from the stretching, ice it again.

Good luck!

Both, ice to numb the pain, and take away swelling. well no swelling for a pulled hamstring i guess. and heat to sooth and relax the muscle Remember RICE, and you will know the immediate treatment protocol for many sports-related injuries, including hamstring pulls or strains.

Rest the affect area.

Ice the injury.

Compress the injury (Apply a bandage or other compressive device)

Elevate the injury
