Is there any way to tell if a finger is broke, without an xray?

As far as diagnosis is concerned, no. However if you have a doctor evaluate it, they may be able to tell you whether or not you need an x-ray.

If u cant move it and it hurts really bad!
If the pain doesn't go away, if the swelling doesn't go down, or it's bent in an odd way, it's prob broken. if it hurts when u touch it and if u can't move it.
the pain will me minmal if you keep it stationary, but if you try to move it the severity of the pian will increase and you will aslo haev a hard time moving it, and the finger will appear crooked
if you can't move it at all is a clear indication. if you can move it. it is usually a sprain. even if it is painful
If it hurts without you applying pressure on it, it means it is broken. My nan always said to put a cold compress on them (good old peas) for say, 5-10 minutes and if it still hurts at the end of the time its pretty damn likely!
Why wouldnt you go and get an xray though? lol Yes Hit it with a 10 pound sledge hammer and it is broken.
