Thyroid T4 test?

Question:
I had my t4 checked and again it is low but only by a few points. My doctor will not do anything but I feel like I am not myself. I have gained about 60 pounds in the past year. Do you think I should see another doctor about it?

Answers:
Check out www.thyroid.about.com. There is lots of information about thyroid disease, talking to doctors, lists of doctors who may help and an updated lab value chart that your doctor may not be aware of, and therefore not treating you.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Other Answers:
Yes, and ask about synthroid

It never hurts to get a second opinion, also you should probably have a full thyroid profile done. This includes thyroid stimulating hormone and t3 uptake. The TSH would probably be more significant, with a low t4 if the TSH is high, all is probably well but if the TSH is also low there is a problem. Synthroid is a synthetic thyroid hormone to replace needed thyroid in patients who do not produce enough on their own.
