Is biting your fingernails unhealthy?
Question:
Answers:
Yes. Bacteria and germs are one concern. Also, if a person swallows their clippings (and many who bite their nails do) those clippings often end up in nature's garbage bin, the appendix, which can lead to appendicitis.

yes, theres a lot of germs under your fingernails.
yes it is i used 2 bite mine not any more cuz i keep getin sick from it don't do it
Yes, it is very unhealthy! Just think of all the germs you are swallowing! It is bad habit and it is up to you to quit this addiction! Do it gradually! Only if you choke on them!
The idea that there are germs under your fingernails is a good reason to chew them! We are all so paranoid about germs these days and taking way too many antibiotics and cleaning our hands with alcohol wipes, but our bodies are designed to fight germs. If we never let the body fight any germs, it won't be ready next time one slips past and gets you!
Let your body get stronger naturally, don't worry about a few germs, they're everywhere!
However, chewing your fingernails is a sign of anxiety or nervousness so I would try to solve the problem you are having that causes you to need to bite your nails.
