Is it normal to pick your nose and eat it?

I've noticed my 14 year old son has this habit. I've spoken to his doctor about it and he reassured me that many children do this, and although not a particulary attractive habit, is not a bad thing. He said that many children never break the habit and bring it into adulthood with them, never telling even their spouses. Is this true?

they never really do grow out of those random and sometimes disgusting habits.

I don't think it's that normal. I had a classmate when I was a little girl at school who did that but we all disliked him for it and found him to be disgusting. Keep an eye on him and instruct him without any harshness so he would not learn to do it behind your back.

pit a bit of camphor or eucalyptus on his finger tips and tell him not to pick his nose and get a tissue.

thats disgusting.. and even it is something you cant take.. try to control your son from doing this or bring him to a psychologist coz what i heard before, picking nose as a habit depcits the child's insecurities..

probably is. I used to in childhood but eventually broke the habit by telling myself that it would be better if I didn't.

I think it's only normal in kid's under 4!

I don't know how normal it is, I would think that if a person has not broken this habit at an early age, that they would be definitely be doing it in private, as to not be embarrassed about it. I wonder if they have done studies about it, if there are any, I cant find them posted on the web. What I did find, I already knew, that it can lead to nose bleeds, and cause damage to the tissue lining in the nasal passage.

There used to be a kid at school who used to pick his nose, roll it around on the desk for the entire period, and then pop it into his mouth! We hated him, I wonder if he still does it......Gross
