second degree burns?

Question:
my daughter has a second degree burn she got on her thumb on the fourth of july.I took her to the doctor on the 5th and he cleaned it gave her sulfure to put on it.But now she wants to go swimming,is the chlorine ok for her?

Answers:
Is the Burn Healing?
Are there no symptoms of infection? Is the area blistered?? drainage, swelling, temperature. If none of these are present It will be fine for her to go swimming as long as you check and make sure she doesn;t get an infection. However please remember that some people do urinate in pools and any germs that anyone else has is in the pool. If there is any drainage she should not go swimming.
If you are still in doubt you should consult your doctor.

Other Answers:
i dont see why not. i have had second and third degree burns many times and never stopped me from swimming. may wana call you doc to be sure though

It's not the chlorine I'd worry about so much as anything else in the water that might NOT be killed by the chlorine. Burns are very susceptible to infection. You might want to call a doctor and see what they would recommend. If she DOES go swimming, be sure to make sure she washes the burned area thoroughly afterwards with an antiseptic cleanser.
