Cold or Hot compress?
I just got in a fist fight with a sibling..stupid reasons of course.but anyway. My hands and arms are getting welted and brusing. What do I use to to help prevent brusing? I know cold to help with swelling, but what about the bruises? Or any other advice to get rid of them or cover them up, I have to work tomorrow. Thank you.
has anyone had a pain on their left side just below the ribs? did you know what it was?
Answers:
USE COLD COMPRESS!
To bring down swelling you should apply COLD compresses, NOT HOT!
WHY? Bruising is bleeding, under the skin surface due to soft tissue damage, applying heat will increase the blood supply to the injured area, thus increasing the swelling & pain and thus increasing the bruising.
R.I.C.E.R
R - Rest the casualty and the injured part
I -Ice packs wrapped in cloth - apply for
10 minutes on
10 minutes off for 4 hours maximum
C -Compression bandages should extend beyond injury
E -Elevate the injured part
R - Refer to medical aid as soon as possible, especialy if on aspirin/warfrin medication.
AFTER 24 hours, a hot pack to the area will help the bruise heal more quickly.
Can you fly with an Ear Infection & what happens if you do?
hot
Hot compress first, then cold. When you use the hot compress you'll be opening the cells up and letting blood pass. Then when you follow up with Cold compress you'll be closing the ruptures cell so that they gather less blood for the bruise.
If you take any Tylenol internally, take it immediately. If you are using a liniment like Dit-Da-Jow, Aspercreme, or Head On. wait untill after done with hot compress to aplly, and reapply after cold compress.
If its bad just make sure you repeat and if there any pain that affects motion, see a doctor, please.
I just got stung by a bee! I don't see a stinger, what to do?
COLD
what does poison ivy look like and how long after you touch it does it appear?
Heat Compresses work to keep blood flow circulating. Switch off and on from hot to cold. I think you will find this to work. of course take some anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen to help as well. Good Luck! :)
what do they do with your bone left in your stump after amputiation above the knee?
Cold
Just ice and ibuprofen for pain/swelling. Not sure if you can actually prevent bruising. Also just cover up make up to minimize it a bit. Sibling's are such brats lol....
Use the mnemonic R.I.C.E.: rest, ice, compress, and elevate. R.I.C.E. the affected areas. The bad news is that your bruises will appear, which is normal. You must allow your body to repair itself. Bruises, or contusions, are broken blood vessels beneath your skin. They are bleeding (internally) and they will repair themselves over a few days. You can try to cover them with clothing.
