If a persons knee is still swollen after falling on it; should you he or she go to the doctor?
Question:
Answers:
Try elevating it and put ice packs on it. 15 minutes on then 15 minutes off. Ibprofen is also an anti-flammitory that may help. (Note: Do not use if you have a bleeding disorder) If you don't see any relief from that then I would call your doctor. They will probably do Xrays. Most Doctor's offices can set you up on a payment plan. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
Other Answers:
You either go to the doctor or buy the ronco home amputation kit.
Could be fluid. If it doesn't go away, feels warm to the touch, reddens, or if you develop a fever, then you need to go to a doctor to have it checked out. You might need it tapped to get rid of extra fluid, or it could develop an infection.
Ouch.
yes with the high cost of health care, I understand your reluctance. I too am in that position. However, I do believe this time it is necessary. Perhaps a public hospital or a clinic would be best. Also, perhaps they offer payment plans. GL and stay off that knee! that's hard one.I personally would see the doctor, seeing as the swelling hasn't subsided after three days. I can understand that you don't want to pay for a visit that is unnecessary though. Perhaps call the doctors office and describe your situation and see if they feel it's necessary for you to come in and be examined. Until then, try taking Ibuprofen, ice the knee on and off throughout the day and elevate your leg above your heart while lying down for 20-30 minutes at a time. This might help the swelling and/or pain.
Whenever your health is in risk and your unsure do whatever you can to be OK. This is you, your body, you want to be at your best always. Hope you're OK and get to your doctor. They will work out payment plans to keep you comfortable with costs.
If it is still swollen after 3 days, you should definitely see a doctor. Are your tetanus shots current? While you are visiting your doctor you may also want to get those updated if you haven't had one in the last 5 years. If you don't have insurance, and don't have a primary physician, go to the ER, they have to take you and they can set up payment-plans when you get your bill.
Take care.
I am not a doctor and you should seek medical attention if it continues to bother you after three days because you may have torn cartilage or something. I would recommend icing the knee for 20 minutes four times a day, keep it elevated and try to keep your weight off of it. What people tend to take for granted is that swelling can cause more problems and damage. Everyone is right Ice it, wrap it up with ace bandage not too tight cause it will cut your circulation off, and rest it. Is there signs of brusing? Ice brings the inflammation down and helps with the pain. However, do not place ice directly on your skin wrap the ice with a towel or cloth. Without really seeing the injury it's hard to tell how severe you injury is. It can take a week for the swelling to go down. If your swelling doesn't get better in a week and gets worse then you really need to see a doctor.
