What's the best thing to do about shin splints?

Question:
My brother said to flex my foot, but that kinda makes it worse, and my sister said to take a hot bath, but its summer, so. Do you have any suggestions?

Answers:
If you have shinsplints, ice them often, take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen, and don't run for a few days. If you want an exercise to prevent them, try tapping each foot for a minute before you run. Keep your heel planted and tap your foot as fast as you can, just like you might tap your foot to music. It gets harder to do after 20-30 seconds, but keep going. Make sure you do at least one minute on each leg.

Other Answers:
I have heard that you should ice them for 30 minutes

i use to be a runner..my advice..retire from running and all exercise.lol.just have ur toe pointed to the sky and put the toe against a wall and push..u should feel a pull in ur shins..also if u sit down and point ur feet outward and have someone put pressure on ur toes and u pull up..that stretches the area..and u can also sit down and point ur toes toward the sky and have someone press the sole of ur shoe with pressure and u push out.lastly..ice as often as possible..and definitely after each workout Avoid running etc, or whatever hurts. Make sure you have good arch support in your shoes. If you don't let them heal properly, you will have problems with it for a very long time.
