I've tried to give blood but they won't take mine because I have a kidney disease. I would give blood regularly if I could.

I use to give blood all the time, before AIDS, and it only took about 20 minutes. Now it takes well over an hour. Before it was in and out, now it's a hassle.

I have tried to give blood twice, twice I was turned away. My veins are quite dep under my skin and they have said that they would not be able to get a full donation from me.
I would love to donate, I just can't.
i dont think people are scared i just think they dont know much about it there should be more imformation about it about.

mainly because people think there is not enough time in the day to do it. if you get to donate blood, you need to provide a full medical history example
. diabetics etc. i gave blood for years but i had to stop as my blood pressure was too low. your blood fill up again within 8 hours and you just need to drink plenty of fluids afterward. the needle is not too bad. and i think people with body piercing do not stand a good chance of donating blood.

There are also many reasons why people are unable to give blood:
*You normally need to be under 59 and over 17
* You mustn't have an infection (although a cold is normally okay)
* You mustn't be pregnant or have a baby under nine months
* You mustn't be on antibiotics
* You must have a high enough blood-iron level
* You can't have had a piercing in the last six months
* You can't have received a blood transfusion since 1980
* You must not be HIV positive, or think you may be
* You must (if you're a man) never have had anal or oral sex with another man. If you're a woman you mustn't have had sex with one of the aforementioned men in the last 12 months.
* You must never have received payment for sex
* You must never have injected non-prescribed narcotics
And there are more exceptions based upon where you visited, dental work and other medical issues.
Even without all this, a number of people feel faint after giving blood and can collapse - generally the NBS would not advise such people to attend if it's a repeated problem.
Ouch, your question pains me. I think alot of people are not allowed to give blood for health conditions that they have. I also think there is a "fear factor" involved here. Through education and community outreach people will learn that it is such a valuable service and the benefits far out weigh the minor inconvience and pain. Give blood if you can---it's part of being a good member of society.
its because most of the people are not aware of this they have a cilli thinking that their bloods are getting wasted they dont know that i will come again some people are intrested but they may have some disease you cant compell any one also you cant ask the affected peson to give blood i appreciate your interest towards that the solution for this is hospitals have to conduct some awareness pgm for this especially in rural areas so that people may understand the importance of blood donation also they have to say the importance of eye donation with a point that we will take ur eyes only after death
I believe that it is a small minority that are blood donors due to the fear of catching blood born diseases e.g: H.I.V. AIDS and Hepatitis A B or C. More education needs to be given of how this is prevented and what happens to the blood. Maybe a documentary on television would help or including the subject in the many soaps that are broadcast as i believe this would reach more of the population.
I've heard that people with iron deficiency cannot donate blood. However, I must admit that I'm also scared of being infected somehow; there have been quite a few hospitals with hygiene problems in terms of reused needles.
I'm not allowed to. I try every year but because I had a brain haemorrage 13 years ago I'm banned for life. Can't really understand it as I've survived ok for the last 13 years so I wouldn't have thought a pint of blood lost would do any harm. I 'persuade' a different friend every year to donate blood so I gues that's at least 10 new donors which makes up a bit for little old me!

Some lack proper knowledge and know nothing about it, some are ignorant, some don't want to bother, some have health conditions that prevent them from giving. I cannot give blood because my blood iron level is too low to be used. Would you call that scared, hardly.
I'd love to give blood to help others, but according to the blood donor service here in the UK, because I'm gay and have had sex with other guys, my blood can't be taken. Even though, I've been tested for HIV and other STDs. But its ok for straight people to give blood even though they are spreading HIV more than gay people.
They're obviously not that short of blood.
