Why do people grind their teeth in their sleep sometimes?

Question:

Answers:
It's called BRUXISM.

The cause, or causes, of bruxism remains unclear. Some dentists believe it is due to a lack of symmetry in the teeth; others, that it reflects anxiety, digestive problems or a disturbed sleep pattern. The most likely explanation is that the cause of bruxism includes the simultaneous conditions of emotional stress and occlusal disharmony (where teeth do not bite down on each other correctly).

Other Answers:
I grind my teeth at night, one of my teeth doesn't align properly and creates discomfort when my teeth touch. Your problem could be similar. It could be stress. There's alot of reasons people may grind their teeth. The best thing to do is see a dentist and get a night guard.
Jealousy in dream.
its a sing of stress
they can't help it
Stress. I have a tendency to grind my teeth excessively during times of stress and when I'm driving.
I dealt with a daughter sho did this and found out it is a dental or emotional problem.
Investigate both possibilities.
I dont know but I was told I used to do it all night long. Let me know when you find out :-)
Big teeth.can't help but rub against each other. Plus they supposedly can't help it. Its a subconscious habit. You are not aware you are doing it.
I really don't know..anxiety maybe? There are mouth guards that you can get from your dentist to wear at night so that you don't wear your teeth down or have your jaw hurt in the morning..are you having that problem? I would go and see a dentist if I were you. It will make you feel better and will be better for your teeth.
The causes for bruxism may range from improper teeth alignment (the body tries to fix this while sleeping), to stress or ALLERGIES. So start checking first for signs of allergy and move on from there. I tell you this cos my son was grinding teeth at night, went from dentist to orthodontist, to pediatrician and back and they all said the same. Turns out he was allergic to down pillows.
i would say emotional stress. Thats when i grind my teeth.
