What is the best thing for bug bites and chigger bites??

Question:
My son has some bug bites on the top of his head that he keeps itching. What should i do?? Also he has a bunch of bites around his underwear line that i am guessing is chiggers..

Answers:
On the top of his head? I guess they're probably still mosquito bites and can be treated the same way.

If there's those big red bumps, try using your nail to make an impression on it then rubbing it with salt (my cuban friend's mother taught me that, it's a remedy they use in Cuba, and it seriously works! It's weird!!). Other than that, just get some kind of anti-itch cream like Bacitracin (sp?) or Benadryl. If there's a patch of little pumps (like around his underwear line), just put some calamine lotion on there (they make clear calamine lotion too if he doesn't like the white showing up on his skin when it dries and it can also be used near his hair without it showing up if you want to try that on his head). Any one of those should make it stop itching so it will heal without him bothering it. If he makes it bleed by scratching it, make sure to clean it with alcohol and try to push the bump back down.

Other Answers:
clear nail polish is best for the chiggers.
witch hazel
What are chiggers? I use Aloe Vera oil to stop itches, or calamine lotion or eucalyptus oil..just a dab.
You can get some ovewr the counter medicine called chiger rid at Walgreens or your local drug store to help with the chipper bites. Its in a tube and is almost applied like nail polish

Have him shower very good to get them off his body. Then us alcohol. It will sting a little, but will stop the itching.

Either do that or go to the Drug store and pay alot for chigger lotions.
Tennessee mud
when i was a corpsman in the marines we were always getting chiggers and red bugs in the field. when we got near the ocean we'd soak in it and it kill it all off. no ocean! use epsom salts. put it in warm water and soak the area, any strength you mix is harmless. we usually used 4 parts water, one part epson salt. if you have cuts scrapes or wounds in the area of application it will burn a little but not harmful. apply the solution three or four times per day. usually a couple soaks in the ocean took care of it in a day or two.

if you're dealing with ticks there are various methods, many of which work but whatever you try make sure you get the head out of yourskin. that is how the infection occurs. once you get the tick out apply a three in one antibiotic. if after 3 - 5 days you have redness or soreness which has increased, go to a doctor. lyme diseas is carried by certain ticks, the symptoms may not manifest themselves for weeks or months but can be tested for much earlier with some blood work.
for chigger bites but clear nail polish on them it will smother them and they will die
