can you take ibuprofen and aceteminophen at the same time?

Question:
my daughter had her wisdom teeth removed, she was prescribed vicodin but wants to take Advil first to see if it is strong enough, if it is not, can she safely take the vicodin (which contains aceteminophen) before the advil is worn off?

Answers:
I was told this is safe to do, alternating every 2 hours. (EG 10 am take advil, noon take tylenol, 2 pm take advil, etc.) And so you don't exceed the daily requirements of either. However, vicodin is pretty high powered stuff, so I would make a quick call to your doctor or pharmacy about this first.

Other Answers:
Ask a Pharmacist. They'll know best.

I wouldnt recommend it I'd ask a health care professional this question.

sure.

ASK A DOCTOR NOW

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory (reduce swelling)

Aceteminophen is for pain

Take whichever seems to be best. Personally, I would start with the prescription for the first day or two, then go with Advil.

definitely ask pharmacist or dentist - but I don't believe you can.

for the removal of wisdom tooth, though, I'd think the Ibuprofen is better (vicoprofen has 200mg of ibuprofen - have you filled the vicodin prescription? maybe they can switch). Also, the iburprofen is for inflamation so I would think that would be best? Not sure. Also, did the doctor not recommend ice packs every 20 mins the first day? That helps the pain and inflammation. Also, sitting up in bed versus lying down at least the first day.

All the above depends on a patient, other meds patient taking, age, etc.

I would recommend almost anything but ibuprofen. Ibuprofen has been linked to serious kidney problems..Stay away.. She should just take the vicoden to begin with, it will help. She may find she only needs two or three doses and can then switch to the advil. She could take both but that seems like it would be a reverse way of doing it.

yes, you can alternate acetominophen products and ibuprofen safely because they have different dosage schedules and you can overlap them providing longer lasting pain relief

Yes, when my daughter was in the same boat, they told her to alternate between the two. That way the ibuprofen was helping with swelling and both were helping with pain,
