It is hard to accept, but for people of that age I think its pretty damn hard. Often times they get too stubborn and don't see the whole "life and death" issue.

I suppose the happier he is the less he will smoke, but then again he could already be addicted which wouldn't matter much.

Drive to the cemetery or visit the cancer ward of a hospital. That worked with a friend.

My neighbor stopped smoking a few months ago. She swears by hypnosis, it worked immediately for her. She smoked a lot. she lives across the street and it seemed she was on her front porch with a cigarette all the time. She feels so much better and has started running.
