what will soothe sunburn or sun poisoning?
It is evening time. and my son has a bad sun burn. What can I do?? He is only 10. I know he should of had sun screen on but he did not. Now, I need to find something to relieve his pain. This is a child that usually does not burn. Very unusual.

calamine lotion rubbed on the burn will decrease itching. also rubbing aloe vera on the burn will help him to feel cooler as the aloe has that nice cooling feeling. it will also help keep the skin moisturized. also, giving him benadryl will help stop the itching. talk to a pharmacist about the correct dose for a 10 yr old child, and try that as well. he will become sleepy from the benadryl, but that might be a blessing in disguise as he wont have to feel his uncomfortableness if he is sleeping :)

Sunburn (warm, red skin) can be treated by simple over-the-counter sprays and lotions containing aloe vera and lidocaine. If he has truly sun poisoning (nausea, vomiting, cramps) then he should be seen by a medical professional as soon as possible. That can be a very dangerous condition - I know, I had 3rd burning on my face one time from only 30 minutes in the sun and had to be hospitalized.

noxema, aloe vera, or even vinegar. vinegar definately works the best! From much personal experience, vinegar takes the heat & pain from the heat out of the sunburn. And you just re-apply the vinegar as often as needed. Of course you also start smelling like a pickle or italian salad dressing, but the smell is definately worth getting rid of the heat & the pain.

Motrin will help a little with the pain. Benadryl might help with the itchy, and maybe help him sleep. rubbing alcohol, or aloe gel, also, hydrocortisone cream. If you think it is sun poisoning, you may need to seek medical attention. Give him lots to drink, also.Now that I've given my advice, I have to say it..Bad Mommy!

I realize it is a bit late now, but years ago our neighbor gave us a small aloe plant, which I stuck in the ground. Now, I have a mini aloe forest, and every time someone experiences a burn, I simply lop off a big fat leaf and smear the soothing ooze on the problem area.I hope you stick an aloe plant in the ground after this crisis passes.
