Do you think I should see a specialist for my reoccuring low iron levels.?
Question:
In the past 2 years I have been taking Chromagen for my low iron levels. Was a 6 and then went back up to "normal range" so my doctor said I can stop taking Chromagen about 5 months ago. Yesterday I had an appt. since I was feeling dizzy and fatigued. He checked my iron levels and it was back down to an 8 and he recommended that I go back on Chromagen. He said that I may have to take the iron pills in cycles where I stop for 4-5 months and then begin taking them again.
I just have to wonder if this is good for my body and if there is something that is causing my low iron levels. (FYI I eat meat)
Has anyone experienced this? And if so did a specialists help?
Thanks,
Melissa
Answers:
low iron levels can be a sign for a few other things.and one of them isnt good.you may want to see a specialist such as a hematologist..a doctor that specializes in blood problems (hematology).my mom was always anemic and the doc's just blew it off..come to find out she had multiple myeloma (cancer of the blood) and by the time they diagnosed it it was too late to do any treatments..she passed away1 month later.I strongly suggest you get a second opinion from a specialist.it maybe just what your original doc said it was but at least you'll have peace of mind knowing what it is and how to treat it.

Look into taking folic acid. Sometimes your body just isn't absorbing the iron and folic acid helps. I don't know why but it worked for me when I was pregnant.
