How can you prevent a charliehorse?

Question:
I've recently started riding a bike to work and back home, but i have a very poor physical condition, i get tired very easily, and my muscles are always "exhausted". every now and then, i get really painful charliehorses because of that. how can i prevent them without giving up on riding my bike?

Answers:
eat bananas and drink gator aid. they have the potassium you need to help with the charlie horses. and stretch before and after you ride.
i'm proud that you're riding your bike. way to go!!

Other Answers:
you need more potassium in your diet, try eating more bananas, or get a vitamin supplement.

Warm baths with epsom salts and a sports cream rub. They will go away soon.

Keep up the good work !

You need to stay hydrated with lots of water, and don't forget to stretch before and after exercising. That and make sure you are drinking plenty of water or Gatorade. You need to keep the nutrients flowing. Bring a bottle with you for a short ride, bring a backpack with you for a long ride. :D

Make sure that your calcium, potassium and magnesium levels are in check.

Charley horses are usually caused by being dehydrated or a lack of potassium ( if you have been drinking alot of water )bananas have a ot of potassium

eat a bannana it has the potassium u need Well I'm not sure how to prevent them, but assuming the charlie horse is in your calf, you can stretch that muscle during an episode and it should help make it go away. Point your toes up and push your heel out to stretch it. It always helps me.

Stretch before and after. Touch toes. Cross legs and slowly extend to toes.

you may need more potassium, so eat bananas or take supplements

Drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. If your not into exercise try yoga or just stretching through out the day. Hope this helps! Eat BANANA'S I heard that they help some how! Yep I just looked it up. It says that electrolytes are chemicals in the body sodium, magnesium, calcium, and potassium-that help the cells function normally. It says that if you have to little or to much of one of the electrolytes.. To make a long story short eat healty!

You need potassium, drink some orange juice or eat a few bananas before you exercise. They are good for you in more ways than one.
