Many people in my family smoke, and i really dont want them to. Any ideas that might make them stop for good?
Some of my family smokes and there always like "oh im ganna quit someday" and they never do. And they get on the patches that suppose to make smoking bad but they rip it off. I really want them to stop smoking! But i just gave up cause i dont know any way to make them stop! Any ideas people? Or if you were a smoker, howd you quit? Thanks a million if you can answer and please give some good answers!

Find a way to show them that you really care about them and that's why you want them quit, not because it's a disgusting habit. For example, I told my nephews I would pay for half their gym membership, but I would pay for the whole thing for each month that they didn't smoke. If you have a good relationship with your family, a little sibling torment won't hurt. Start calling your brother "cancer boy" or "tobacco turd". There has to be someone your family knows who died a horrible death from lung cancer. Remind them of that. Or, challenge your brother to a game of racquetball. When you kick his butt, say "gee whiz I bet if you quit smoking I wouldn't kick your @$$ so badly next time". Get creative. You're fighting an uphill battle, but if you're successful, they'll thank you. Focus on positive reinforcement. Good luck.

One night when they are all sleeping, find their cigarettes, or whatever they smoke, and hide it. Dont throw it out because if they get angry, like a violent angry, u can just give them back. But whatever u do deny that u know where they are

I got the same problem. I'm thinking of sending anonomous letters about how bad smoking is for them. Hopefully the letters will make them feel bad about smoking and the fact that it can force them to leave their loved ones sooner than they want to. Maybe that can help them quit. Just a suggestion.

I agree with Brandon, quitting smoking is a personal choice..you can beg for them to quit and threaten that if they don't you stop talking to them, throw away their cigarettes.etc, But honestly if they don't want to quite smoking its just not going to happen. Sorry :(

Remind them yet again of the health risks, and how painful emphysema deaths are, and then tell them it upsets you because you dont want them to die early, and say 'if not for yourself, then quit for me.'If they smoke inside, make them smoke outside (say its for your sake). This will discourage them from smoking when it is cold outside.

Research things that finds out what smoke has in it and read it to them. Tell them to stop and then get personal. gl!

That's a hard habit to kick. My mother is a smoker and has cancer.she has continued to smoke through out her radiation treatments. She also has other chronic health problems and will not quit. I think that it's not that she doesn't want to quit rather she can't. Here's how I got my friend to stop smoking while she was pregnant. I don't allow smoking in my house, so my friend went outside on my balcony to have a cigarette while she was 4 months pregnant. While she was out there, I coached and sent my daughter ( who was 3 at the time) outside to ask her for a cigarette. Of course she told my daughter that she couldn't have one. When my daughter asked her why. She told her because she was a little girl and too young to smoke. My daughter said, " Well, you let your baby smoke".
