Tattoo removal advice?

Question:
I have a tattoo, its just black lettering. I'm over it and now I want it remove. I'm sure it's very costly even still they do the removal in different sittings so I'm assuming one lazer treatment has a fee, then the next one.and so on. However, if you get a tattoo removed can't you still see something there? Whether it's a scar or a very faint image of what was there. Because if that's the case I think I'll just stick with what I have. A tattoo is better than a huge scar or a "ghost image" of what was a tattoo.
Thanks :)
Oh and if you have had a successfull tattoo removal- can you provide pics?
KThanks

laser is the only way

Well we have Q swtched ND yag laser that removes Tattoo nicely without any marks. in the older days it was very painful to have a tattoo removed. today they have lasers that can do it and most are done by plastic surgeons. if properly done, you won't see any trace of it being there. a plastic surgeon at the va i go to has a private practice he also owns. he did my ear and several moles that i had since birth. he was so good, you could tell he did it. the laser burns the surface skin and gets the tattoo off. new skin growns over in no time and its gone. check with a plastic surgeon in your area. if your a veteran. good chances the va will do it as they list it as elective surgery and the doctors can show the student doctors and that is free. depending on the size of the tattoo it would run at least 400.00 on up.
