At what age does a child stop seeing a pediatrician & begin seeing a doctor for adults?

Question:
My son will be 12 in October.

Answers:
When I went to the hospital, I was put into the pediatric ward and I'm 17, so I'd say the cut-off point is 18.

Other Answers:
Puberty is usually the turning point. I've gone through it 3 times this year alone and changed doctors 3 times too.
They usually change around 16 year of age. A 16 year old has mostly adult problems and, as far as medication goes, is dosed like an adult. A 12 year old is a little young to go to an adult doctor.
Depends on the doctor---some care for them till 18, others pass on to another doc at 12/13/14--depends on the doc.
