whaat does a patient sitter do? Other than "baby sit" patients?

Question:
At Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit,MI

Answers:
I am an aid at a hospital and I do one on one care all the time. You may be needed to bathe the patient, feed the patient, change bedding and perform vital sign checks. If they are on medical watch then you may need to closely monitor them to make sure they aren't trying to pull IV's and other medical aids out. If they are there for behavioral reasons you may need to monitor them for suicide or agression. These are just a few things that may be required. The job all depends on the patient's problems. Your Nurse in charge should be able to give you details as they are needed.

Other Answers:
a patient sitter stays with the patient and makes sure they are safe. usually they are placed with confused patients that are not safe getting up by themselves (at a high fall risk), since in most states the use of restraints is illegal this cuts down on patient injuries due to falling.
depending on how alert the patient is and the hospital policy the sitter could just sit there all day, watch TV, read a book.or they could interact with the patient.
i was a sitter for two days i learned many new card games the first day.the second day i read a good book..as a sitter i did not have to bathe, or toilet the patient, the nurse assistant came in for that.
A patient sitter should be capable of many things. He or she should be able to pass a background check, and provide assistance to the patient and their family. They should be able to assist with feeding and toileting, as well as watch for further signs that could be life threatening

Do you mean the same thing as a bed sitter? If so, they are the patient advocate. They make sure the hospital staff is doing their job. Thet make sure the patient is not neglected i.e. feeding, bathing, clean clothes etc.
Many times, families that have an elderly one in the hospital who is aggressive and/or combative will have a bed sitter because the family cannot take a lot of time off of work etc. The bed sitter assists in making sure the staff or the patient isn't hurt.
Some patients like to pull out there tubes or IVs so bed sitters keep a close eye on that too. It's always nice to have a bed sitter to keep the patient from getting lonely too. They provide conversation. They can read to the patient, take them outside to the courtyard etc.
patient sitting is more than just baby sitting patinets they have to clean the people and talk to them they also have to tolerate these adults and thats not easy as when its a child
