what is the best way to put ointment in the eye?

Question:
my daughter had a stye, and i took her to the doctor, he gave us antibiotic ointment for the eyes. how should i apply it? the package just says apply to eyes at bedtime..

Answers:
pull the lower lid out.place a 1/4 inch "ribbon" of the ointment on inside of lower lid (being careful not to touch the tip of the applicator to any part of the eye!), close lids together. You can have her blink several times (gently, so as not to blink the ointment out) and this will help it to disperse.you can also have her hold the eye shut for a few minutes to allow it to work before any of it escapes.

Other Answers:
Pull out the lower eye lid by grabbing the center of the eye lid. This will create a little "pocket".

Put a ribbon of ointment in the pocket and have her close her eyes.

I found that the ointment stings a little bit, especially the longer you do it. When it spreads over your eye, it is quite weird. It looks like looking through a sheet of wax paper.

Here's an easy way to do it in kids (and adults too): squeeze a tiny amount of antibiotic eye ointment on a Q-tip. Gently and slightly pull down the lower eyelid and line the edge of the eyelid with the antibiotic on the Q-tip. Take care not to stick the Q-tip anywhere else into the eye! Later, each time your kid blinks, the antibiotic will spread evenly throughout the eye.
