Picky 8 yr. old, what to feed her?

Question:
I have an eight yr old that is such a picky eater.she doesn't eat much of anything.and she is so thin.Dr said not worry, but I do.any suggestions? thanks

Answers:
give her choices as to what to eat. ask her "do you want this food or that food?" then if she says "I dont want any of them" tell her that she will not eat because those are her choices. sometimes tough love is the only way to help her to get over her food pickyness and to have her branch out and ty things. have her help you plan meals, but dont give her too much free rein - make sure you set boundaries and limits with her and make sure you are always in control. dont feel bad because she wont eat.

Other Answers:
give her the stuff she needs in correct portions.. she probably doesn't like to eat.. cause i remember when i was little i did not like to eat alot

my mother had the same problem with me.and one day she sat me and my siblings down and asked us to write what foods we want her to make for us that we would eat. she simply took our lists and everyday made something from the list..it made cooking easier on her and dinner more enjoyable for us.

ask your kids..trust me..they have an opinion!

Let her help pick the menu and prepare the food with you. It really helps the child to enjoy cooking and to be proud of the accomplishment. I can almost guarantee that she will eat more if you do this. Is she underweight, according to the doctor? If not, I suggest not pandering to her picky eating and just telling her what to eat or she goes without. She'll soon start eating more. I used to be a very picky eater and it did me no good to have parents who gave in to that. Now when I feed my two nieces, who try very hard to be picky, I get them to eat what I give or they go without until the next meal, and always eat then. I think you should also experiment more with foods - perhaps have several different dishes at the same meal and share to see what she likes/doesn't like so the pressure's off on her to eat everything on her own plate that she may well not like. Hope this helps.

Well, when I was young I was very picky, but it was good for me. Now I'm thin, unlike most fatass Americans.

You can make food fun. If you give her a sandwich, use a cookie cutter and make it into shapes. Kids also like to help prepare the food. Let her play chef with you sometime, she will, hopefully, want to eat her own creation.

Grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken fingers, pizza (make it at home so you can control the toppings and make it healthier) and healthy shakes, and chicken noodle soup!

My little sister is really picky so when she comes to stay with me (20 year age gap between us) I usually feed her the stuff I listed above.

I make home made pizzas and she seems to love that because I get her so interested in helping me make it that she doesn't pay much attention on what's in it. Instead of pepperoni or high fat cheese, I buy low fat cottage and other assortment of cheeses and we put different veggies that I let her pick out on it. I try to cover the veggies with the cheese so she is not reminded of the little "green" stuff on her plate.

I also make her healthy shakes but I just call them milk shakes in front of her. I use low fat milk, cocoa powder, bananas, and splenda instead of sugar. (I never use ice cream.)

I know she is picky.but it's really important to make sure she eats healthy food too instead of just letting her eat whatever she wants.

Whatever you don, don't buy junk food and leave it around the house. She might be snacking and feeling up on that which will give her more of a reason to not want to sit down and eat "real food". my son has always been a picky eater, even though now he's 15 yrs old.

What I do, is just make food that I think he will eat and set it out on a plate..he eventually will eat it..

if I bug him to eat or make an issue out of it, he gets angry and refuses to eat.

Silence, and food in sight.they will eat !
