is there a link between hypoglycemia and ADD?

Question:
i asked a question earlier did a little research on hypoglcemia and some of the questions asked is the same questions they asked my hubby when they diagnosed him with adult ADD.

Answers:
YES YES YES!!

hypoglycemia is more serious then just needing apiece of candy to get you 'up' again. It has for many years been diregarded as the cause of so many other issues including psychiatric and behavioral.

EX: Years ago, people use to be committed to psychiatric hospitals because of their behaviors when the behaviors were directly related to Hypoglycemia.

Too often Hypoglycemia is minimized and underplayed.

If you have insurance, go to an Endocrinologist. this is the only doctor who will be able to properly assess your glucose/hypoglycemia and also do a complete Endocrine workup which always a good idea to know how the thyroid functions, etc are playing into it as well.

good luck

Other Answers:
i think it may be so because i get really stupid when i have sugar and i also think i am hypoglycemia. I find that I am unable to think properly and make decisions the way i normally can

I would get his sugar checked - not sure about the similarities of the two diseases but many people in a state of either high or low sugar are mistaken for being drunk and incomprehensible - also my father is border - line diabetic and becomes very irritable and unfocused when he is hungry - I would not be surprised if hypoglycemia is mistaken for add - It may save your husband's life to have his sugar checked and it is a simple blood and or urine test - good luck Hypoglycemia is frequently misdiagnosed. You might try altering your husbands diet and seeing what it does. A person with hypoglycemia should eat a lot like a diabetic. What has stabilized my wife's hyploglycemia is watching her sugar intake and eating a lot of vegetables with meals. It seems the high fiber content of the vegetables slow down the rate at which she metabolizes the food she eats and balances out her blood sugar for a longer period after she eats. If your husband's symptoms get worse when he skips a meal or goes a long time between them you might have some testing done and get professional dietary advice.

As a teacher, I have never heard of a correlation between Adult ADD and Hypoglycemia. Though some of the characteristics are similar, there is not connection.
