Seeking info about the drug Voltaren (NSAID)?
Question:
Answers:
its in the same category of ibuprofen...it is not necessarily stronger but may be better, it depends on the person as each person reacts differently to medications. Its a fairly pretty good drug. Just make sure to take it with food as it may upset your stomach.
I am editing this because I noticed that the guy below me said its a muscle relaxant which it is not. Its an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. The generic name is diclofenac. The person below me must have the drug confused with something else, because its not a muscle relaxant. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.
stronger, yes.
it's a muscle relaxant.
no more dangerous than any other mild drug, but don't eat it like candy.
It is stronger. I've used it and it helped me. But the way the doctor told me to take it was 1 pill twice a day, 1 in the morning, 1 at night religiously for two weeks. It worked.
Initially I would take it whenever I felt the pain, and realized that the pain just kept coming back. I spoke to the doctor and then I began taking them as he indicated. It really worked and the pain didn't come back. If you do it like that, you allow the medicine to build up in your body and attack the problem.
Good Luck!
Voltaren and Ibuprofen are both NSAIDs. They both work to decrease the hormones that cause inflammation and pain. They do, however work differently to accomplish this goal.
Both drugs have certain side effects that you may experience. With voltaren, they may include muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling; ulcers (open sores) in the mouth; rapid weight gain (fluid retention); seizures; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears; yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice); or abdominal cramping, indigestion, or heartburn.
With ibuprofen,they may include chest pain, weakness,shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance; black, bloody, or tarry stools;coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds; blurred vision or problems seeing colors;swelling or rapid weight gain; urinating less than usual or not at all; nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; or
fever, headache, neck stiffness, chills, increased sensitivity to light, purple spots on the skin, and/or seizure (convulsions). These are the serious possible side effects. If you experience any of these, call your doctor IMMEDIATELY!
The less serious (often annoying) side effects may include
upset stomach, nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation;
bloating, gas, loss of appetite; dizziness, headache, nervousness;
skin itching or rash; or ringing in your ears.
DO not take aspirin with either of these medicines, as it can increase your risk of developing a GI bleed (bleeding in your stomach or intestines). Only take the medicine as it is prescribed for you, do not take more than recommended.
Voltaren is not a muscle relaxer. It basically helps to decrease the swelling in the affected area.
