Probably not a spider bite(or any other bite) unless you see a welt or an ulcer. The rash may be unrelated to the strain, or it could be small ruptured blood vessels. If so, it should start to look more like a bruise after a few days. Does the rash itch? If it does not resolve in a few days, you should probably see your physician again to have it examined.
