Abuse reported immediately. What would cause head to swell so grotesquely?

Question: The time between injury and results are needed to find out who was responsible and the guilty party being brought to justice. The child is fine with no lasting medical problems. The worst abuse is knowing someone could hurt them . Hopefully the child is young enough not to remember the abuse. Thanks for the information.
