Hey Sabina, stick to wiping people's dirty as*es ya lowly CNA. Get some education and become a real nurse. BTW, how does a nursing home get a hip fracture?

Turn the patient onto their unaffected side. Did you bother to get the hip X-rayed?

Other Answers:
You should turn them so that they are lying on their left hip (the side with no damage). The reason is to take off all possible pressure from the injured area to prevent it from getting hurt.

I went though this with my mother and Hospice nurses. We used two people, when possible. Get a sheet and fold it in half from end to end twice and place it under the patient so it laps over both sides of the bed.

When you need to turn the patient, get a firm grip at the corners and turn them slowly, and very gently. Any other way could be very painful to them, and to your spine. Protect yourself when doing this as well. Be sure to ware a typical brace that is used by delivery people. You wouldn't want to hurt your own back.

Hope this helped and good luck. The best way would be to put a draw sheet under them (usually coversheet folded into a fourth will also do the trick I. Then use the sheet to gently roll them over.
