Why are my limbs jerking with what feels like a mild shock?

Question:
It's a strange question, I know, but last night while I tried to fall asleep- and again this morning- suddenly my arms and legs jerked of their own accord. It was like a very mild shock, not painful, but uncomfortable. More like I was a marionette, with the strings for my arms and my legs being suddenly pulled. It happened several times, and kind of alarmed me. What the hell could cause it?

Answers:

It's caused by your body releasing energy that wasn't used throughout the day. I get the same thing sometimes, just try to be a little bit more active throughout the day and it should go away. You might want to be checked by your physician for MS.. Sometimes people have signs of just a simple twitch in the finger, like Richard Pryor did.. Found out he had MS.. So just to be safe tell your doctor ASAP. Hope this helps!! ;-)

If you hadnt mentioned your arms, I was thinking Restless Leg Syndrome, but it sounds like a nerve thing. Consult your physician.

Its probably early signs of Mulicple Sclerosis (MS). I began my systoms with blindness. Some with dragging a foot. Some with twiching limbs. So go to the doctor and he will run an MRI with will confirm the diagnosis. Nothing to really worry about. I have the twitchingnow all over my body, but real lightly, there are medications that control this problem. My twiching started real slow but now I get the pins and needles feeling all over and take the Methocarbonal to control em. Monel Williams, Vanassa Williams, Richard Pryor, and many more actors are being diagnoised every day! Once the symptoms disappear through control drugs you can live a normal life. Do everythig in your opwer to reduce your stress levels ok? MS in Washington State is the #1 place in the world for folks with MS. Why, no one knows. There are no cures, only the control of the symtoms you are suffering from. If you want more detailed info. on MS e-mail me at Faysdaze1@verizon.net I have had it for 18 years and counsel lots of newly diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a disease that affects the nerves in our bodys. Co go to a doctor, these symptoms need to be taken care of and an MRI will tell just whats going on in your body. Weird huh?

I'm tempted to say restless legs syndrome too. But you would do well to talk with a doctor just to be sure, since it has happened enough to frighten you.
