Why do people need sand?

Question: Why is it that when you lie on the beach the sand is all lovely and soft, but when you lie on a huge piece of sandpaper you just can't get comfy? I live in England and there's not a lot of sand but loads of sandpaper,so it's a shame really.

you could re-create the beach experience by shaking the sandpaper out of your bathers.

Sand is used to make concrete. Sand/soil are necessary for growing food. Think of the poor camels. They'd have nothing to walk on. i live in the united states and i use sand in my gardening. it is great for drainage. around my place we also use sand for some of our landscaping. what it actually does at the beach i don't really know. i do know that i just love relaxing on it and having a great time playing near the water!!
