My neighbor (female) had gastric bypass she lost alot of weight but.?
Question:
Answers:
Your friend sounds like an alcoholic, I'd advise her to get to detox for a number of reasons.
First, gastric bypass patients get drunk a lot faster than normal people. My husband jokes that I'm a cheap date because I can get drunk from 1 drink. Since there's no stomach to absorb the alcohol it goes directly into the bloodstream and you feel the effects immediately. It goes away quickly, but the buzz is intense while it lasts. I would advise waiting an hour to drive even after 1 drink, I've known plenty of gastric bypass people who got a DUI for being pulled over even after 1 drink.
Second, because it goes directly to your bloodstream and your liver has to work overtime to filter the alcohol, it's more common for gastric bypass patients to get cirrhosis, even moderate drinkers.
Third, alcohol is completely empty calories - it will eventually lead to weight regain or less weight loss if done regularly.
So my answer is, while it is OK for a person with a gastric bypass to have a drink occasionally, it's probably not that great idea to make a habit of it because of the reasons above. For your friend, it sounds like it's not something she's going to be able to kick on her own - have you guys thought about staging an intervention?

no that is horrible and dangerous tell your friends if she values her life she would stop drinking and get help.
its not ok to drink.. the liquor might do more damage who cares about the gastric bypass..it sounds like your friend is an alcoholic! she is putting her life and her childrens lives in danger,,, maybe you should suggest she get some help.. aa possibly
I think that drinking in itself after a gastric bypass is ok. It does sound, however, like your neighbor is making some poor choices. You're right. Its a bad idea to drive with open alcohol in the car, and its a bad idea to be sloshed all the time, and its a bad idea to refuse medical attention because you would be without your booze. That's called alcohol dependence. And its not a good thing.
What a shame. If she has family, other than her little girl, you should talk to them. They need to do an intervention and may ask you to be there and explain to her how her alcoholism affects you and your relationship with her. If her family won't do an intervention, and get her into rehab, or if she has no family, then I think you ought to call social services.
Regardless of whether she is a friend. It is your duty as a human being to make sure that her child is protected. Driving or not, a drunken mother is a problem for a child. Obviously, your friend does not think her life is worth it and you can't change her, but you can see to it that her child is protected.
In my state social services can't tell who turned them in. If she is endangering her daughter you MUST turn her in. That part of the question bothered me more than whether it is ok to drink. And I don't know if it is or not. Hi there, I had gastric bypass in 2000. The doctors tell you to not drink any alcohol if you can..or if you need it maybe one small glass of wine a day. Myself, when I go out with friends I sometimes have a few drinks, but I do get drunk a lot faster so I have to watch myself. Tell your friend that drinking that vodka will make her gain more weight, and why did she bother having the surgery if she's going to do that to herself? Good luck.
