Radio opaque dyes?
Question:
Answers:
I run a clinic where we deal with a dye injected into the vein called Fluorescein sodium, and I have fully researched this dye. It is a water based dye and is excreted in the kidneys, and expelled in the the urine. I therefore ensure that my patients know how it is metabolised and know that they need to drink plenty of water to flush the kidneys through. I also inform them that the urine will be bright yellow in colour for up to 48hrs, as well as their skin which can have yellow or tanned colour for four hours. If they have diabetes, they also have to be aware that it may alter their sugar readings. I have been involved in producing a leaflet for patients so that they do not have any worries.
As far as I know radio opaque dyes used for x - rays are also excreted in the kidneys and therefore leave the body the same way.
