I scraped a rusty barbed wire last night..should I get a tetanus shot?

Question:
I do not think I have had one in 10 yrs, so any help would be appreciated!

Answers:
Only your doctor can deside if this course of action is appropriate. Though it would be preferable that you go see him immediately. He'll probably suggest you take the new method of enoculation, which is in pill form now. Better safe then sorry, plus even if you don't get tetnus it's a good idea to keep you from getting it for a while. Lockjaw is a very dangerous disease, even if they treat it with antibiotics it won't clear up right away, considering it isn't the bacteria that causes it, but the waste product it excreates.

Other Answers:
If you would rather not get lockjaw or blood poisioning I would highly recommend it. They can be purchased at cost from your local health dept.

Well, DUH!! No one is attractive when they have lockjaw, get my drift? By all means, you should definitely update your immunization.

It might be a good idea or you might get gangrene.

Typically, we recommend that Tetnus be boosted every 7 to 10 years. If you're not sure when you had your last booster, you may want to talk with your personal care physician.
