What does a pap smear feel like?

Question:
I am really scared!!
help me
please

Answers:
The thing to remember is.RELAX! It doesn't hurt, but can be a little uncomfortable. The doc will open you up with something called a speculum (doesn't hurt), will do a visual, then take samples with long cotton swabs. She'll remove the speculum and probably do a pelvic exam, which involves the insertion of fingers while manipulating your belly with her free hand. You'll be fine. It'll be over within 5-7 minutes. If you're freaked that your doctor is male, don't forget, he's not a MAN, he's a DOCTOR. :)

Nothing to be scared of. Its just a small spatula/Q-tip thing that the doctor takes a sample of your uterus/cervix wall. Does not hurt one bit

it doesn't hurt but really uncomfortable i mean you got someone in your crotch, but other then THAT you will be ok. A cold scrape deep inside which is exactly what it is, they clamp your sides and take a long q tip and scratch your insides and smear it on a slide for testing. Uncomfortable-yes, but over before you know it and you don't have to do it again for a year. I don't know of any women that enjoy it and dread it.

A pinch inside you. Nothing to fear.

I dont like them either! They always so ohh they are not so bad.and they arent Terrible just bad. They feel like someone is pintching the inside of your stomach if they do swabbing. The actual insertion of the metal thing doesnt hurt even if your a virgin. Its just a lil cold:) And the doctor sticking his fingers in you and checking you is even worst..who wants that! You also may have a lil spotting afterwards..especially if your pregnant, but if you are you better get use to it- They do it alot if you are. Hope this helps!

Don't worry, the more relaxed you are the less uncomfortable it will be and it is just discomfort not pain. It feels a bit like getting a faint stomach cramp afterwards. Seriously, relax and it'll be over before you even know it! Your question was what does it FEEL like. A little cramp that lasts for only a matter of seconds. There may be some mild cramping afterward, but nothing major.

You should not be scared, having a pap smear can be quite uncomfortable if you are really tensed up. All you need to do is relax while it is being done by closing your eyes and breathing slowing and trying to relax all the muscles of your body. Once you pass that stage you should be good to go. That technique works for me pretty good that I don't feel anything most of the time. If you are asked to return to have another one done, it is probably because not enough of the cells from the neck of the cervix was collected. Believe me, this procedure is for your best interest, so nothing should be too much for your health. Your health comes first.
