Is gastric bypass surgery really necessary or are people just too lazy to go on a real diet??

Question:
I see that the new trend with a lot of celebrities are to get the gastric bypass surgery. Why do they spend all of this money to have an operation that might kill them just to loose weight?? Why not just do it the old fashioned way by eating a healthier diet and exercising??

Answers:
People are fat and lazy and need to go on a diet. Get your fat butt off the couch, stop snacking and go out and exercise.
I could tell you this, because I am an obese person. I think the gastric bypass surgery is an easy way out. I started dieting and exercising back in May, and even though its a slow and hard process, I have lost 25 lbs. I refuse to do the gastric bypass thing.
because once you are very heavy(more than a hundred pounds) - it's harder to exercise and dieting that late in the game is extremely difficult because the body fights even harder to keep the fat..and usually the person's health is already compromised, making surgery a necessary choice. (Not everyone can have the surgery)
And if a very heavy person does make it through the difficult stage of losing weight - they have a lot of loose (excess skin) that has to be cut off ---
I watched the program on those really big football players and too many of them died (even though they were on diets and specialized exercise programs - the damage done to their health couldn't with stand the dieting/exercise program .. when you are carrying around several hundred pounds the body is under too much stress and over time the health starts to go...
I also understand that medical doctors consider anyone who's 50 pass their normal body weight to be obese---
It is an optional surgery, so no it is not necessary; however, there are some people that are so over weight that they are unable to diet and feel as though they are starving when you limit their food enough for them to metabolize the calories. Gastric bypass allows them to eat more without absorbing it into their system. A Dr goes in and removes a part of the intestate that absorbs nutrients. This is a serious surgery and has harmful long term consequences. When a portion of your bowel is removed, not only do you absorb less calories, but you don't absorb as much of the vitamins and may become anemic.
If you or a friend is considering this, check with several Dr's and try some other options first. Surgery should ALWAYS be a last resort.
The medical standard for gastric bypass surgery is that you have to be at least 100 pounds over your ideal weight, so I seriously doubt that there are a lot of celebrities getting the procedure done. Whether the person could have stopped the weight gain before they got that obese is open for discussion. But once they get THAT fat, it is extremely difficult to lose weight through the normal way.not impossible, mind you, but very difficult. Often these people have so many health problems by the time they get to that point that traditional weight loss strategies are even more difficult because of their physical limitations. In such cases gastric bypass may be the only way to save their lives.
Probably because they have tried to lose weight naturally countless times and keep failing. If they have 100lb to shed, it might seem like an almost impossible feat if they lack the determination and motivation to do so. HTH : )
Gastric bypass surgery is not necessary at all, but because people have no self control it's an easy way out.
where is the hair.
Here is something for you to ponder: before anyone gets gastric bypass, they have to lose weight for 6 months, in order to prove they are going to have the level of commitment needed to keep off the weight after the surgery. Gastric bypass, also, is not an 'easy' way out, but the person doing it may think it is before they have the procedure. Honestly, these surgeries sound truly revolting to me . I don't know why anyone would wish that upon themselves!
