If your friend has been to the tropics it my be gardia Chrohns disease. It is way worse than IBS.my mom was diagnosed 2 yrs ago. With the proper diet and meds she is much much better. Good luck

Usually it dosent matter to people even for extended periods of time, but it could just be that she had contaminated water at home? it's likely.
