If you have a leg amputated can you keep the bones?

Question:
i think it would be badass to have a skeleton leg on display and be able to say it was mine.

Answers:
are you a freak!
Not the part that was amputated!
Ask the doctor and see.
ewwww. No, I don't think so. I had major surgery about a year ago (had an organ removed). I asked if I could see it after surgery (didn't want to keep it, just see it). The surgeon said that legally after a body part is removed from someone, it becomes property of the state and must be disposed of properly (biohazard,etc.). I was pretty bummed.
All you have to do is ask your physician!
It's yours, so I would imagine you could.
They're your bones. ask your surgeon.
Um. Wow.
are you for real?
Yeah, she's right. It's considered a biohazard now. Now back in the 50s and 60s, you could have kept it, but we have different helath standards now. I'm sorry to say it will be sent off and likely burned to ash.

BUT- you can buy a medical skeleton and tell people it was yours! LOL
No you can not for health reasons..usually when someone has an amputation it is because of infection or diabetes...
I saw on a movie that they kept the arm and then had a funeral for it? The movie led you to believe the kid died by showing a funeral, then it was just for his arm.

I think you can keep the whole thing if you want or if it is not a contagious disease. But you would have to ask the hospital or doctor. A woman can keep the cord or part of the cord after childbirth (I did not do this but had the option). I also seen people keep their toe in a jar after it had been cut off.

Sorry kind of gross.
Usually, the hospital will dispose of the bone for you. However, yes, there are some who would even bury the bone after giving it proper services. Depends on the custom of people which I think, should be respected.
