Answers:
During meditation mind becomes concentrated /focussed and calm.Body activity comes down.Breath rate ,pulse, heart beat becomes slower.Nerves system becomes free from stress and strain. In higher levels of meditation ,Samadhi or supreme happiness(cannot be explained)/bliss happens. This you cannot study from books .You have to do it under an expert teacher(Guru).Yoga(meditation) is not a simple exercise as under stood by western society,it is much more than ,that separate existence of mind is experianced.Mind beyond matter!

Other Answers:
Your conscious mind becomes quieter, as you enter a meditative state. This in turn allows your unconscious mind to get on with the job of looking after your health and well being without conscious interference. Your unconscious mind communicates on a Quantum level with your DNA, and your immune system, it takes note of what needs to be done to keep your mind and body in good shape, and sets about the task of repairing any damage that it finds, all without you being aware of. It is also helpful at relaxing body and mind which in turn has many benefits to ones well being. Meditation does not have to be a religious practise, in fact every human being has the ability to meditate, but it is often ignored in this consumer led world.
