when your having surgery they say take your jewelry off, well how come you can't wear contact lenses?

Question:
i was just wondering how come they make you take yur contacts out when your having some kind of surgery??

Answers:
Your tears will be dry and your contacts may 'roll' up your eyes, kinda like if you fall asleep with them on and then you have to locate them when you awake on your eye. I have contacts and I've had surgery, think of your surgery as if you are taking a heavy nap.

Other Answers:
Because your eyes are taped shut, and might dry out while under anesthesia. If they pull the tape off and take a lens, they don't want to be responsible, either.
I think it's because if you're sleeping, your contacts are liable to fall behind your eyeball. Why would you need to wear contacts during surgery anyway?
do you want to be blinded by some sort of mistake ? and what if your face & eyes swell from surgery or anistisa then cant remove them.you wont be looking at anything anyway till out of recovery & then can put back in.
If you are being put under general anesthesia they put tape on your eyes. If you have your contacts in not only will your eyes be dry but they may well get scratched. So for your own good.. leave them at home and bring your glasses.
two reasons they will dry in your eyes and they might melt to your eyes if your heart stops and they have to shock you
It might have something to do similar with why you arent to wear nail polish. With nail polish the docs need to see the lines under your nails for evidence of good circulation.

The eyes probably have a color that the docs need to see as well.
