if the pain is gone, i suppose you sprained it a while ago.
when your not walking around, keep your leg up above your chest, you need to drain the fluid out of your leg.
ice wont help now, its too late. untill you drain it off, every time you walk around it will fill up again.

depends how badly swollen and how much you are walking on it - had a very badly sprained ankle years ago - issues with swelling for more than 2 weeks (didn't know I shouldn't walk on it) - as a result, took a few years before it was back to where it should be Make sure you do not exert too much pressure on your ankle. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS ICE THE SWOLLEN ANKLE IN ICE WATER.LIKE A BUCKET FULL OF IT FOR 2O MINS. THIS WILL HELP THE SWOLLENESS TO GO DOWN VERY RAPIDLY.
BUT I WOULD SAY 3-4 DAYS..IF LONGER..GO TO THE HOSPITAL.
Keep your foot elevated (higher than your heart), alternate ice and heat 30 minutes for each. Swelling should go down in 5-7 days.
