the daughter of a woman i work with has panic attacks. she doesn't want to take any meds for it either. try getting somewhere where you can be by yourself and do deep breathing exercises. look online for panic attack solutions.

I've heard of people breathing into a paper bag helps those. good luck to you. If you 've had some, you know what they are when they start. What you have to do is train yourself to notice the earliest signs and remind yourself over and over exactly what it is and it won't last. The scariest thing about a panic attack is not knowing what it is. I used to think I was having a heart attack or something. Keep at it, soon it'll be second nature and you'll hardly notice them.

I have those sometimes and I just try to breath and count to 10 and then hope it goes away.

yeah get exercise do breathing exercises that are calming remove your self from the situation of anxiety if these don't help go talk to a certified psychologist or counselor. i know someone with this problem and they receive counseling and it has helped them alot. the counselor talks to them about the causes and teaches them exercises and methods to control it. hope this info helps.

Yes Genie. Many people do vigorous sports and it helps to calm our nerves. Some do meditation, some do scuba diving, some do yoga, some do judo.

If you are into religion, prayer may help a lot. To commit the problems you cannot control to a higher spiritual being will enable you to worry less and focus more on your work, studies or everyday life.

I have used prayer or even finding a song and focus on the lyrics has helped me in the past 1.-Deep breath in through your nose with mouth cosed and deep exhale out your mouth-do this deep and slow until calm-usually 5 times but may take 5-10.This usually works for lowers blood pressure and relaxes. If a really acute attack here you hyperventilate breath in and out into closed around mouth/nose paper bag-this will stop hyperventilation and relax..Try to determine what brings on,incident, emotion etc the panic attack and then when you first feel it coming on do 1.

When are you experiencing the attacks the most?Maybe hypnosis??, deep breathing, but most of all try to figure out what might be causing the attacks.

There usually is an underlying reason (or reasons, plural) for panic attacks. So that is what you need to look at. Is there an area of your life (ie, health, relationships, career) that needs major attention, that you're also ignoring? If so, you need to see a therapist to work through that stuff. I've said it before, I'll say it again, the hardest thing about asking for help is--
asking for help. Make the phone call, find a therapist, don't worry about money because you can be referred to someone who will talk with you without regard to what you can afford. But, first and foremost, start making some phonecalls to get help.

good luck to you.

relaxation tapes,breathing exercises and imagery
