its funny, every time they ask me i always say good - just out of habit

asking how u r is more of a coutercy that we do to everyone.

also people dont just go to docters because they are ill.

they ask to be courteous. If you are not well, this is your opportunity to tell the doctor about it so you can get help.

That is a very good question. I have always wonder that myself. I guess that it is just socially accepted to ask someone how they are doing. Just a polite thing. But truly it is a silly question when they know you are there for an illness or injury. You're right.I though they were college educated as well.

if they don't ask you how you are, how they going to give you there over winded advise

EVERYWHERE YOU GO THEY ASK THAT QUESTION, THEY DON'T REALLY CARE.ITS CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Yes, my doctor asks me that every time I visit him like its some kind of joke. I just look at him and smile with a retarded grin and tell him, "You know doc, I've been better". Then he hands me the bill and I want to strangle him with his stethoscope.

LOL

It is only a way starting talk and making you feel easy to answer further questions They may try to make you feel better by using a common greeting and tricking you into answering 'Good, thanks!'

It's just polite. We're not stupid you know! But we like to try to make the patient feel comfortable when they first come into the room. Going straight in there with "so what's the problem" seems a bit brisk if you ask me. We're just trying to be nice!

I must be one of a very few that don't have a lot of time for doctors, I'm pretty sure they could be replaced by computer diagnostics , just tick a 'symptoms' box and possibly 90% of of our problems could be solved, no need for polite 'chit chat' !
If the computer should diagnose 'Emergency' then you call an ambulance, the doctor would only do the the same !
I am not a believer that doctors have some sort of mystic powers , they are just like you and I, except they make more money than us!!
