What would cause my 3yr old to have blood in his urine?

Question:
I noticed this morning when my 3yr old son went pee he had a little bit of blood in his urine. Can this be something serious? I'm hoping that this is do to lack of water.

Answers:
Most likely is a urinary tract infection (bladder infection) followed by a possibly but unlikely kidney stone followed by other more serious but much less likely possibilities. He should be taken to his pediatrician for a urinanalysis to verify. He will need an antibiotic to shake the infection. I would not ignore it, even if it stopped. It is possible his first void tomorrow morning will be bloody too. If he starts to exhibit fever or vomiting go to the ER tonight rather than wait for an office visit tomorrow.

Other Answers:
A kidney infection. You should take him to the doctor quickly.
may be not drinking innor water
it could be something serious,i think you should take him to the emergency room, they`ll have to do tests on him,but it`s better to be safe, than sorry.
i dont know what it is but maybe he cut his penis by accident(im not trying to play around)
i don't think its a lack of water. you should call the doctor right away. i'm shocked that you would be asking a bunch of strangers on here rather than call your family doctor asap.

That is usually a sign of bladder or kidney infection. I think you should get him checked ASAP.
Get off the computer and call the on-call doctor immediately. They will let you know what you should do.

It's pretty scary when out-of-the-ordinary things happen to your child. Good luck.
the nail i put in his soup
could be a UTI,uratract infection, you really should get him checked out by your doc,if left untreated it could go up into his kidneys, and he could end up in the hospital, please dont wait!GOD BLESS!
Is it painful. Does he cry when he urinates? it can be as simple as trauma (e.g. excessive running or trauma to the lower abdomen) Has he had a cold or virus recently? This could be related to an immune related problem where the kidney is attacked by the infection and antibodies.
Does he take frequent tub baths?
Is he having any fever or chills?
In any event, he should be seen by his pediatrician!
The best thing you should is call his doctor and get appointment on the same day and also go to Wed Doctor.
