is MATRONIDAZOLE CARCINOGENIC?


Question:
is metronidazole carcinogenic? i read one label of a metronidazole syrup and it says that "warning test results with lab rats showed that this metronidazole are carcinogenic. do not use metronidazole unless it is necessary"---- i just reworded it.


i already forgot the whole statement. is it or is it not?

Answers:
Metronidazole has been shown to be carcinogenic in mice and rats (see PRECAUTIONS.) Unnecessary use of the drug should be avoided. Its use should be reserved for the conditions described in the INDICATIONS AND USAGE section below.

An antibiotic used to treat infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia lamblia, amebic dysentery, anaerobic bacterial infections, and colitis caused by Clostridium difficile. Trade name is Flagyl.
