Don't think about it too much. You need a bit of determination & you obviously have that to ask about it.
Quit on the spur of the moment - try & frighten yourself & until you cope without one, steer clear of the pub & people who smoke. I gave up in June like that & have stuck to it where previous attempts failed. I did at first allow myself to have one with a drink but then went so long without going out that I sickened myself & haven't touched one since. Be careful of that though because it can become an excuse for a cigarette. If you've been smoking 20/30 a day you may want to have patches to help you & as well as giving you nicotine it can also act as a deterrent because it is dangerous to smoke with one on. But like I said once you've quit, forget about it. The more you say to yourself I've given up the more you'll be thinking about smoking. Keep busy with a hobby. Good Luck x
Throw away all your cigerettes. Then find a new hobby, something easy, but time consuming. like rock-climbing, gardening, walking, join a social club, etc.
this way you are busy doing something else.
i give up about 4 years ago 1 was smoking between 30-40 a day i used patches but i think its down to will power you have really want to give up good luck
I gave up a about four years ago using the Zyban tablets that I got from the doctor.I thought they were excellent.they kind of blocked the addicive part of your brain so you get no enjoyment from it..tastes like fresh air (also worked with other addictive things ie chocolate). I would highly recommend them, but a friend who used them did not like them and they didn't work for her. Good luck anyway with your quest to give up.
glue your lips together.. that works!
i have to say i have no sympathy as there is nobody in the developed world who DOESN'T KNOW THE RISKS OF SMOKING.
i sympathise you had problems but you chose to smoke, regardless of all the facts behind smoking related illnesses.
I would suggest keeping the mind active and everytime you feel like lighting up pinch the back of your hand hard as a reminder not too. good luck
my mums husband gave up smoking after 30 yrs, and it has now been 5 yrs for him, it's very difficult, and he tried many things from patches to will power, but the thing that helpd him most was a book i bought him, it's called the easy way to give up smoking, it's by Allan Carr. At the beginning of the book he tells you not to give up smoking till you've read it, it apparently goes through each stage you will feel through you giving up, try it and see
have a black chocolate beside you always, and take a bite every time u feel the urge to smoke. my friend's brother did it, and it works for him..
My dad, was a smoker once and he was able to give up smoking somehow easily. I asked him how, and he said, he bought 30 packets of cigarettes looked at all of them for 10 minutes thinking about smoking and he just burnt all of them in a furnace. Could you believe that? 30 packets, just think about how many sticks were wasted. After that he never smoked again. Before he threw those boxes, he hesitated for a few times and thought it over again. Until he just screamed, picked up the boxes and threw them into the fire as if he were angered. Try it. This is the only way I can think of that doesn't include therapy nor medication.
yeah dont start!
I used patches they do take the edge off but you really need to want to do it, takes willpower. Take each day at a time, find other distractions and avoid places or habits where you associate with smoking until you feel stronger about it. I found reading was good coz I never smoked in the house anyway - got stuck into a good story and was using my hands! Try not to replace it with food, eat fruit, sugarless sweets or healthy snacks to avoid weight gain. Take up exercise and the money you would have spent on fags, save and treat yourself. Thats about £1500 a year - a holiday!
go to www. Chantix.com and read about the new Quit Smoking Pill..It's expensive about $170.00 1st month supply..Some insurance companies will pay some of the cost..A Doctor has to prescribe it for you..I know people that have been on it for over 30 days and they say they have no desire to smoke..seems it blocks the receptors in the brain that craves nicotine..The people I know swear by it and I understand you may only have to take the pills for couple months and Bingo you don't smoke anymore. Good Luck Keep Trying you'll make it..
OK, this is backed medically, not just me saying it. You have to try cold turkey (stopping all at once) and it will take 5-8 serious attempts before you can do it. In the meantime, try to cut down on the number per day, and start walking. I hope you can do it.
Think of the benefits you get from smoking, then the benefits of not smoking every chance you get. This will convince your sub conscience it is better not to smoke. then after about 30 days just try to go without smoking for 1 hour, then another , and so on. I did this and the 1 hour turned to days, then weeks, and now months. I managed to stop after 20 years of smoking. Good luck to you.
it takes a lot of will power but try this
first cut down the ciggies you smoke, try to cut out the ones that you don't really need or enjoy, you know the ones where you just light up for something to do. keep at that rate of smoking for about a week and then cut down again maybe just one or two for another week or so, then cut them again until you're just smoking after meals or with a beer etc. from there you've cracked it, throw all your smoking kit away and try to avoid smoking for the rest of your life. good health
I gave up !7 months ago,I went to the docs who said i should see the young lady who advises on how to.Well I set a date for 1 week on and went down to see her.I was given nicorette patches which stop the craving,And i will be honest and say I had 18 ciggies left in a pack which I smoked over the coarse of a week, after that I did not smoke again. But you have to want to give up.Good luck and you will feel better for it,I do.And now I am saving £50 a week.
Name a date and give up, use whatever support you can get from the NHS but don't give up giving up abd I wish you every success.
The only way i could give up smoking was getting patches on prescription from my GP. I have given it up now for 20months
I had tried several attempts to stop smoking including patches, chewing gum zyban they all worked for a few months but i always started again. Then someone told me to read a book called Allan Carrs. Easy way to Stop Smoking. along with an nicotine inhalator This worked for me as i have now been stopped for 3 years. Good Luck and never give up trying.
It is mostly down to you. The way I stopped was, I didn't tell anyone that I was going to stop. If people know you are trying, they tend to keep asking you how you are getting on. Worst of all, some people will blow smoke in your face deliberately trying to break your determination. I stopped in 1968 after smoking 40 a day. Good luck!
my boyfriend read the Allen Carr book and gave up instantly. It's worth giving it a try.
two things, desire to really stop and hypnosis, they work well together.
when you find out tell me
I gave up 4 months ago smoked 20 plus a day my health was suffering too..you must really want to give up set yourself a date make sure you have no cigggies in the house I smoked every last one.. get yourself some patches and some gum this tastes vile but stops you wanting a smoke. You need to find something to occupy your hands because i found i didn't know what to do with them. Be really strong and you will do it. I never thought i would i still have the odd time when i could just smoke one..Never given. Good Luck and be strong
