What is the long term effect to your ears if you have fluid build up?
Question:
For the last 2 weeks I have had severe ear pain.
This has been going on for about one year.
I went to the doctors and they told me that my ears were full of fluid.
I have tryed every thing from sinus medication to nose sprays to help drain the fluid out of my ears. I still have fluid in my ears and nothing helps? I am scheduled to see an E.N.T. doctor and would like to know what short or long term effects can this have on my ears. Also what can be the cause of this?
Answers:
You can lose hearing. Best to have them drained as soon as possible. with an inner ear infection you can even lose your balance and equalibrium.
The most common cause is smoking which causes swelling in the nasal passages and stops them from draining. If you go swimming a lot or take baths and dunk your head u can also get a buildup of water.
Something that might help them drain is to get a heating pad and turn it up highest it will go. Lay down on your side with one ear directly on the pad. Sometimes that will loosen the wax and help your ears drain. Try it for about 20 min for each ear.
