Most PT programs are doctorate programs while some are still offering master's programs. The minimum amount of schooling is 5 years for a masters. As far as branches, you can work with children, senior citizens, athletes, cardiac patients, neurological patients and women's health etc. You can work in schools, hospitals, private practices, homes, and you can provide consultation services. The options are really wide and unlimited.
