I am on oxygen using a liquid oxygen portable cannister.?

Question:
I want to fly from Phoenix, Az to Portland, Or, what do I need to do to make sure that I have oxygen on the plane, and in Portland?? Is there a company that rents portable oxygen re-generators?? Is there a company in Portland that can refill my oxygen and will the airlines allow me to check my canister? This is not a bottle of oxygen that you see being pulled behind, it is a portable liquid oxygen unit that I carry under my shoulder.

Answers:
I know this for a fact----
Airlines recently changed the way they do travel patients with oxygen needs. You HAVE TO CALL THE AIRLINES AND SEE WHAT THEY OFFER. If you are with Lincare oxygen they will meet you at the airport with a tank of oxygen and allow you to use it during a lay over----several other companies will also do this. CALL your oxygen provider and see if they can help you. they can come up with something for ya.YOU """HAVE TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH YOUR OXYGEN COMPANY""""" and do this before you leave to hop on that plane!! I have seen many patients get to the airport and get upset cuz they cannot take the tanks on board with them (remember you are 30,000 feet in the air and its VERY compressed air up there. then they have a lay over and are real upset cuz they THOUGHT the airport would have oxygen for them to use while they are there.THAT IS NOT THEIR RESPONABILITY TO BABYSIT YOU.
CALL AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH YOUR OXYGEN COMPANY BEFORE YOU LEAVE, TELL THEM WHEN YOU WILL BE LEAVING AND WHAT TIME YOUR LAY OVERS ARE!! I know this for a fact--I use to work for LIncare and always made travel arrangements for my patients!!
Have A SAFE AND FUN TRIP!!

Other Answers:
Yes you can fly, just tell the airline what is going on, bring a 'note from your doctor' and make arrangements in Portland for oxygen. Even Portland has oxygen suppliers. :-)
